Bloom: a steel card for your phone
Bloom is a stainless-steel card the size of a credit card, sold by Find Your Bloom LLC, a US company that pitched it on ABC’s Shark Tank. You pick apps and websites in the Bloom app, tap your phone on the card to lock them, and tap again to unlock them. The Pod, a matte black magnetic base for a fridge or a nightstand, works the same way. The card costs $39, the Pod $59 and a set of both $69, with no subscription. Free international shipping starts at three cards, and Bloom says buyers outside the US may pay import duties.
Bloom runs on iPhone with iOS 17.6 or later and on Android. For the Mac and the iPad, Bloom says versions are in development, so for now a session stays on the phone and the same sites remain open on your laptop. Without the card, you get three emergency exits, plus one more each month. By default, deleting the Bloom app unblocks your apps; a strict mode in its settings prevents deleting apps during a session.
Norma: a steel disc for your iPhone and your Mac
Norma is a machined stainless-steel disc, 70 mm across and 270 g. You choose the apps and sites to block in the app, then scan the disc with your iPhone to start a session. Sessions can carry a timer, start when you arrive somewhere, or use a hardlock that stops you ending the session yourself for up to two hours. Ending the session means scanning the disc again. At 270 g, the disc is made to stay in one place, on a desk or a shelf, so if it stays in another room, the apps stay blocked until you get up. A limited number of emergency unblocks covers the days you are away from it.
The free Mac app follows the same session. When you scan, the sites you chose are blocked on your Mac at the network level, in every browser, and the Mac apps you chose are closed until the session ends. There is nothing to start on the Mac. Norma costs 90 € once, with no subscription, ships from France within 24 to 48 hours, and can be returned within 14 days. It works on iPhone with iOS 17 or later, and on Macs with macOS 13 or later.
